Zen G – Casting the mould and firing

Because I need this form to be as translucent as possible, using Zoe Preece’s technique I’ve decided to thin down my porcelain. This allows more time for the porcelain to set and creates thinner casts. I added quite a lot of water to my mix, around 20% was water and 80% porcelain.

After casting I did have trouble getting the form out, but after using the spray gun the piece happily popped out without any damage. After bisque firing I added a translucent glaze, this makes the piece pleasing to hold and it would keep the piece clean from people touching it, I high fired to 1260.
