Clay and plaster relief

This process is great as it’s quick, easy and gives detailed casts at the end.

The first step is to lay an even canvas of clay using rolling guides then trim down to the size you want. Now is the time to get creative and indent your objects in the clay, I used a thread bobbin and the bottom of a ink jar, I didn’t give much thought into the pattern so it looks quite messy. I will definitely go back to this process and re-try, I would like to see if I can cast with pewter instead of plaster. Using plastic sheets create a barrier around the clay and secure with clay, otherwise when you pour the plaster it’ll spill everywhere! I’ve never used plaster before and I loved using it, I mixed around 600g of powder with 500ml of water I think, when you place your finger in the plaster and it looks like a white glove it’s ready to pour. After you’ve finished it’ll only takes a couple of hours to dry.
